James J. Smith

James “Jim” J. Smith, 81, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Friday October 14, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Lewsley) Smith.

He retired as a supervisor at the Oswego Wire.

Jim was an avid follower of NASCAR.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Dorlores Haase; his children, Roy Wetzel of Fulton, Jack Wetzel of Oswego,  Jim Smith of Seattle, Brian Strasburg of Oswego Laura Strasburg of Oswego, Colleen Smith of Seattle, Patti Mateer of Oswego, Theresa Wetzel of Fulton, Angela Smith of Seattle, Shannon Smith of Las Vegas, Maureen Leavitt of Seattle, Margaret Smith of Utah; 25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Gary Leavitt; and a granddaughter, Sabrina Mateer.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, at 2:30 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

There are no calling hours.
