William J. Howard

William J. Howard, 83, a former resident of the Oswego area who wintered in Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on Friday October 7, 2016, in Flint, Michigan.

Born in Fulton, NY, he was a son of the late Donald and Sarah (Evans) Howard and was a graduate of Fulton High School.

He was employed with the Nestle’s Corporation for many years.

Mr. Howard was a  S.Sgt. with the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division; serving from 1951-1954.

He was very proud of being a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

It was one of, if not the, defining moments of his life.

Once a paratrooper, always a paratrooper.

He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association and the American Legion.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing,woodworking (furniture and he made amazingly intricate wooden toys).

He was an avid card player who enjoyed music and dancing.

Surviving are his wife of eight years, the former Carrie Rumbolt of Flint, Michigan;, three sons, Thomas (Judith) Howard of Tully, NY, Robert (Dawn) Howard of South Colton, NY, and Richard (Judy) Howard of Oswego; a sister, Pauline (Charles) Farnsworth (Oswego); two brothers James Howard of Oswego and David Howard of Liverpool; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine Hill Howard, in 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m.
