George Johnson Obituary

   George F. Johnson, 86, a resident of Oswego passed away on May 11 at the St. Luke Health Services.
   Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late George T. and Emma (Matteson) Johnson and was a graduate of the CBA in Albany.
  He was employed with General Electric in Syracuse, Marathon Corporation, was the assistant manager at Loblaws for twenty years and was a custodian at the Oswego Middle School for twenty years.
   Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Wisconsin during the Korean Conflict.
   He was a member of the USS Wisconsin Association, St. Paul's Church, American Legion #268 and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed watching SU basketball and curling.
    Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Joan Wallace, five children, Susan (Paul) Stanley of Oswego, Bernard (Elaine) Johnson of Oswego, Michael (Susan) Johnson of Oswego, Daniel (Sandra) Johnson of Brewertown, Kathleen (Bruce) Shafer Jr. of Oswego, ten grandchildren, Sara Stanley , Stephanie Hayes, Nicole Hogan, Michael Johnson Jr., Brian, Steven and Greg Johnson, Patrick, Kaela and Megan Shafer and eight great grandchildren.
     He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Link.
     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 from St.Paul's Church
     Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
     The family will greet friends at  St.Paul's Church on Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 prior to the service.
     In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
