William E. Crego

William Emery Crego passed away in his home in Oswego on July 18, 2017.
He was born on August 20, 1938 and was a son of the late Frank and Marie(Stauring)
Crego.
William (Bill) was a firefighter with the City of Oswego for 27 years. He served as the
President of the Fireman’s Association and was a Scuba diver for the department.
Members of the OFD remember him as the secretary/treasurer of the union for many
years. Bill was the behind the scenes guy who knew everyone in the state and was the
'answer man' for many involved in the Union and the Benevolent Association of
Firefighters. He was the head trainer for the Oswego City School District Bus Garage for
25+ years and interim director of transportation for a year. He was also employed with
Nestle's in Fulton NY.
Mr.Crego is a veteran of the United States Navy, serving 4 years of active duty (1957-
1960).
He was actively involved with the Oswego Figure Skating Club, the Oswego City
Softball Association and the American Softball Association and had attended national
conferences as a NYS ASA Team representative.
As a founding member of the Bog Stream Club in the Adirondack Mountains, Bill enjoyed
the outdoors spending time with his family and friends in “God’s Country” fishing,
hunting and just being with nature. He also enjoyed spending time at his summer home
at Sutter Creek with his beloved cocker spaniel and best friend Duke.
Bill is survived by his daughters Michele Anne Crego (Michael) Hamer of Abu Dhabi
UAE, Nadine Marie Crego Carson (son in law-Paul Carson) of Oswego, NY a son
William Emery (Yvonne) Crego, Jr. of Utica NY, his adored grandchildren, Carley
Carson (Darek Williams), Miranda Carson and Taylor Hamer all of Oswego, NY, and
Matthew (Amy) Hamer of Carver, MA , two great grandsons Colin Jacob Carson of
Oswego and Jack Danger Hamer of Carver, MA two brothers Frank (Glenda) Crego of
Paxton,Il and Sam (Tina) Crego of Oswego, sisters Corinne Crego Lewis ,Francine
Crego Hogan, Betty Crego Whalen, Shirley Crego (Bruce) Turner all of Oswego as well
as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Judith Anne Taylor Crego, his brother Harold
Crego of Theresa, NY, sisters Constance Crego Smith and Barbara Crego both of
Oswego NY.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 from the Trinity United Methodist
Church.
Burial will be in St.Paul's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00-7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his name to either the American
Diabetes Association or the Oswego Fire Fighters Association.
